Lock and Leave: Furniture in April
The hard part of wintering in Arizona is not furnishing the place. It is deciding what happens to the furniture when you fly home in April.

The first winter is easy. You find the place, you furnish it, you have a wonderful five months, and then it is April and you are standing in a living room asking yourself what happens to all of this now.
Almost nobody thinks about April in October. It is the part of the arrangement that decides whether wintering in Arizona feels light or feels like owning a second household.
The three bad options
If you bought the furniture, April gives you a choice between three things, none of them good:
- Leave it in place. A closed-up Arizona house runs extremely hot through the summer. Adhesives soften, veneers lift, foam breaks down, and fabric holds whatever the air holds. You will also want to run the air conditioning enough to protect it, which is its own bill.
- Put it in storage. Now you are paying monthly for a unit, plus movers twice a year, and handling every piece four times per season.
- Sell it each spring. People genuinely do this. You take the loss on the way out and pay retail again on the way in.
There is a fourth option that only exists if you never owned it.
What removal day looks like
When the furniture is rented, April is a phone call. A crew comes, takes everything out, and the place is empty by lunchtime. That is the whole event.
Our delivery fee already covers the round trip — the same fee that brought the furniture in, set up the beds, organised the kitchen, hung the towels and put the artwork on the wall also covers unloading and removal at the end. There is no second negotiation in the spring, and no damage waiver fee waiting for you. We ask that the furniture come back in similar condition, with normal wear and tear expected, and that is genuinely the end of it.
You do not need to be there. With written permission, the HOA office or property management can let our crew in. A number of our winter visitors fly home in early April and have us collect the following week.
Why this suits a lock-and-leave place
The whole appeal of a lock-and-leave condo or park model is that you close the door and stop thinking about it. Furniture you own quietly undoes that. It is the one thing in the house that keeps needing decisions made about it while you are two thousand miles away.
Renting also means next winter is not a rerun of this one. If you take a bigger place, you take a bigger package. If your daughter is coming for a month, you add a bedroom. If you decide Tucson suits you better than Scottsdale, the furniture simply meets you in Tucson instead. Nothing has to be moved, sold, or justified.
Planning your spring before your winter
The practical advice is to settle your removal date at the same time you settle your delivery date. It costs nothing to have it on the calendar and it means April requires no thought at all.
If you are looking at a winter place now, the winter visitor page covers what comes in a package and the pricing page has current rates. When you know your dates, send them over — including the ones in the spring.
